When the Inventory Control module is installed and activated, you can perform the following transactions:
•Transfer units of an inventory item from one bin to another bin in the same warehouse
•Transfer units of an inventory item from one warehouse to another warehouse
•Repackaging of an inventory item into smaller or larger units
The Bin Inventory Movement function allows you to account for the movement of the same inventory item from one bin to another bin that carries the same inventory item unit in the same warehouse. This function is used when the movement of units of inventory item from one bin to another bin results in neither an increase nor reduction in the overall quantity of the inventory item in the warehouse.
There are times when you need to transfer inventory items to a warehouse that is nearest to your customers’ location for convenience. Doing such is also beneficial to your company since it reduces delivery lead-time, handling and transportation costs.
There are also instances wherein you may also decide to change the unit of measurement of the inventory item to make the item more saleable to the market. For example, an inventory item that is currently sold at the market in packs of six may be more saleable if sold in packs of four. This inventory item transfer increases the number of units of the latter and decreases the number of units of the former.
In other cases, your company may need to transfer surplus quantities of an inventory item to a different warehouse to make up for the quantity shortage of the same inventory item in another warehouse. You may also transfer items to another warehouse to segregate your slow-moving inventory items from your fast moving inventory items.
You have the option to use either actual cost or standard cost when transferring an inventory item to another warehouse. You can choose the option in the General Information page of the IC Module Setup function.
