Kitting > Kitting in Inventory Type and Inventory Maintenance

Kitting features for inventory item records can be set up by using an inventory type template that sets default kitting features when creating new inventory item records, or they can be set up when you directly create new kit items. Kit item records can be created using the Inventory Control, Sales Order, and Accounts Receivable modules.

Note: You must activate the item's kitting features at the time you create the inventory item maintenance record; otherwise, the kitting options in the inventory maintenance will be disabled once the item record is saved.

Kitting features in inventory types and inventory items are similar which is set up in the Settings page of the corresponding Inventory Type Maintenance or Inventory Maintenance function.

To set up kitting features for an inventory type or inventory item, perform the following procedures:

1.Access either the Inventory Type or Inventory Maintenance function from the Maintenance menu to display the corresponding Inventory Type or the Inventory Maintenance function screen.

2.Click on the Settings Page of the Inventory Type or the Inventory Maintenance function.

3.Mark the following checkboxes in the Kitting area, when applicable:

oKit Item

Mark this checkbox to specify that this applicable inventory type or inventory item is a kit item. Kit items are made up of component items that are stocked and sold separately under their own inventory item numbers. For example, computers, monitors and printers may be stocked and sold separately under their own inventory numbers, but it may be packaged together under another inventory number and sold as a unit.

Note: You can no longer change the setting in the Kit Item checkbox after saving this record.

oRequire Prebuild

This field is enabled after marking the Kit Item checkbox. Mark this checkbox to require building of kit items before shipment to customers; otherwise, you can simultaneously build and ship units of kit items based on the defined kit formula using the Ship Sales Order and Create Invoice functions.

oUse Kit #

This field is enabled after marking the Kit Item checkbox. Mark this checkbox to require assignment of kit item numbers when kit items are shipped to customers for tracking purposes during creation of transactions.

oPrint Kit # on Invoice

This field is enabled after marking the Kit Item checkbox. Mark this checkbox to print kit numbers on invoices when units of this item are being billed to your customers.

oCustomizable

Mark this checkbox if you want to customize the kit formulae for kit items when creating sales orders. This checkbox is enabled if the Kit Item checkbox is marked.

4.Click the Save button to save your entries; otherwise, click the Cancel button to clear all the entries made in this function.
