Master Records > Inventory Type > Set Up Inventory Type Record

The Information Page allows you to enter a variety of basic information that is applicable to the inventory items to which you will apply this inventory type.

To enter values in the different fields in this tab, perform the following:

1.Enter in the Default Item Description and Default Short Description fields the inventory item description and short description that you want to appear as the default description and default short description on inventory item records to which you will apply this inventory type.

2.In the Category field, click the List box button to display the inventory category options; then, click the option to select.

3.Set up miscellaneous information for this inventory type by entering values in the following fields:

oItem Class

Enter in this field the class code that you want to appear by default on inventory item records to which you will apply this inventory type record.

oProduct Line

Enter in this field the product line code that you want to appear by default on inventory item records to which you will apply this code. For example, you may classify the sound blasters and speakers under Sounds and Multi-media while scanners and printers under External Communication devices.

oStock U of M

Enter in this field the stock unit of measurement code that you want to appear by default on inventory item records to which you will apply this code. This unit of measurement will be used as the standard unit of measurement for the inventory item.

oStorage U of M

Enter in this field the storage unit of measurement code that you want to appear by default on inventory item records to which you will apply this inventory type code. This unit of measurement will be used for storing quantities of an item in the warehouse and other related transactions (e.g. warehouse inventory transfers, physical inventory count, etc.)

oSales U of M

Enter in this field the sales unit of measurement code that you want to appear by default on inventory item records to which you will apply this inventory type code. This unit of measurement will be used for sales related transactions (e.g. creating sales orders, creating sales returns, etc.)

oPurchase U of M

Enter in this field the purchase unit of measurement code that you want to appear by default on inventory item records to which you will apply this inventory type code. this unit of measurement will be used when you enter purchase related transactions in the system (e.g. creating purchase orders, RTV transactions, etc.)

4.Specify whether the inventory item of this type will be accessible in the Transactions functions of the applicable Accounts Receivable/Sales Order, Purchase Order and Manufacturing modules by marking the following checkboxes in the Use In area as follows:

oInvoice/Sales Order

Mark this option box if you want inventory items of this type to be available for use in AR invoices, sales orders and sales quotes processed using the Accounts Receivable and Sales Order modules.

oPurchase Order

Mark this option box if you want inventory items of this type to be available for use in purchase orders and purchase quotes processed using the Purchase Order module.

oWork Order

Mark this option box if you want inventory items of this type to be available for use in work orders using the Manufacturing module.

Note: You must mark the Purchase Order checkbox if you want to assign a drop ship warehouse to this inventory type.
