Set Up Inventory Type Record

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Inventory type records define the default settings of the inventory records to which they are assigned.  Inventory types represent groups of related inventory items, such as computer monitors, or videotapes packaged in a specific unit-of-measurement (six-packs versus 3-packs).

You can set up inventory type records using the Inventory Type Maintenance function.  This function may be accessed in the Sales Order, Accounts Receivable, Purchase Order, Inventory Control, Manufacturing, Return Merchandise Authorization, or Return to Vendor Authorization modules.

Before you can successfully set up an inventory type record, you must first create certain maintenance records depending upon the modules that are activated in the system.

If the Inventory Control module is activated, you must first set up the following maintenance records in this particular order:

Warehouse Code

Revenue Code

Unit of Measurement

Specification, if the Inventory Specification module is also activated

If the Sales Order, Accounts Receivable, Purchase Order, Manufacturing, Return Merchandise Authorization, or Return to Vendor Authorization modules are activated but not the Inventory Control module; you must first set up the Revenue Code maintenance record.

To set up inventory type records, perform the following procedures:

1.Access the Inventory Type function from the Inventory group of the Maintenance main menu. If the Inventory Type Maintenance function is accessed for the very first time and there are no existing inventory type records, the Information Page is automatically displayed; otherwise, the Search screen is displayed.
