In the Routing Steps page of the Work Order function, you may review or amend the route step details of the master items, including the labor and machine resources that is specific for the work order. Note that this page is accessible once information is entered in the Information page.
To review or make the necessary changes on the master item routing steps, perform the following:
1.In the Master Item # field, accept or amend the item number shown. To change the current selection, click the Lookup button to display the Search window where you may select an inventory item number.

2.If the master item selected has specifications, the Specification field will show the item specification for which the work order is created. To select a different item specification, you must make the necessary changes in the Line Items page for the master item number.
3.Review and, accept or amend the existing steps displayed in the Route grid.
3.1. To add a new step, activate a new blank line in the grid by clicking the Append row to end button. Each blank line is automatically assigned a Step # which is in multiples of 10. |
For subsequent grid entries, you may click the Append row to end button to activate a new blank line in the grid or click the Insert row before current button to insert a blank line above the currently selected line in the grid. Each blank line is automatically assigned a Step # which is in multiples of 10, and assigned an appropriate Step # if the insert button is clicked. |
3.2. To delete a line in the grid, select the line that you want to delete; then, click the Delete button in the grid toolbar. |
3.3. Enter in the Description field a brief text that describes the task(s) that occurs at this step. For example, sanding, assembly, quality control, etc. |
3.4. Enter in the Work Center field the designated work area where the currently selected step is performed. |
4.In the Labor and Machine grid, review and accept, or amend the labor resource and machines that are required for the selected step in the Route grid. You may perform the following:
4.1. To add a new step, activate a new blank line in the grid by clicking the Append row to end button. |
For subsequent grid entries, you may click the Append row to end button to activate a new blank line in the grid or click the Insert row before current button to insert a blank line above the currently selected line in the grid. |
4.2. To delete a line in the grid, select the line that you want to delete; then, click the Delete button in the grid toolbar. . |
4.3. Enter in the Type field the labor grade or machine component type that will be used at the step specified in the Route grid. Alternatively, click the list box button to select from the drop-down list the labor grade or machine component type. |
4.4. In the Labor Grade/Machine # field, enter the specific labor grade or the machine number that will be used at the step specified in the Type field. Alternatively, click the list box button to select from the drop-down list the labor grade or machine number. |
4.5. Enter in the Required Quantity field the quantity of the labor grade or machine that will be used at the step specified in the Type field. For Labor Grades, it accepts only positive whole numbers while it accepts only "1" for machines. |
4.6. Enter in the Time field the time it takes for the specified labor grade or machine to perform its designated task during the selected Step # in the Route grid. Value is entered as hours:minutes as in "01:23". |
4.7. Enter in the Efficiency % field the labor grade or machine's performance efficiency rate. Default value is 100.0000 and only accepts positive values. |
5.In the Step Instructions area, accept or enter any remarks, notes or manufacturing instructions you want to include in the currently selected step in the Route grid. The default instructions come from the master item's bill of materials version for the selected warehouse.
6.Accept or amend the value entered in the Required Steps field for each routing step selected in the Route grid. Click the [...] button beside the field to display the List of [Steps] window. In this window, mark the checkboxes that correspond to the Step # that you want to be performed simultaneously; then, click OK.

7.Review in the Next Steps fields the Step number (s) to which the selected step is assigned as one of the Required Steps. This field is always empty for the last Step # in the Route grid.
8.Accept or amend the setting in the Allow Overlap checkbox. Mark the checkbox if you want the selected step in the Route grid to overlap with the next step; otherwise, leave it unmarked.

9.Accept or amend the setting in the Allow Rework checkbox for the selected Step # in the Route grid. Marking this checkbox means you allow users to record any rework for the job.
10.The Outsourced checkbox is read-only and value comes from the Outsourced checkbox in Work Center Maintenance for the work center assigned to the Step # selected in the Route grid. If marked, the following is displayed:
10.1. Review the default value in the Vendor # field which comes from the Vendor # field in the Work Center Maintenance for the work center assigned to the Step # selected in the Route grid. This field is read-only and only used for reference. |
10.2. Accept or amend the default value in the Item # field which comes from the Item # field in Work Center Maintenance for the work center assigned to the Step # selected in the Route grid. The value in this field can be amended if the Purchase Order module is activated and the Vendor # field is not empty. |
10.3. Accept or amend the default value shown in the Outsource Cost field which comes from the work center's maintenance record assigned to the Step # selected in the Route grid. The value in this field shows the estimated cost of availing third-party services for performing the Step # selected in the Route grid. |
10.4. Accept or amend the setting in Allow Outsource Change Order checkbox. Marking this checkbox allows third-party work centers to make changes in the job order for the Step # selected in the Route grid. |
11.In the Scheduling area you may review, accept, or amend the time it takes to perform the following:
oSetup Time/Calculate Setup by
Accept or amend the amount of time needed to set up the machine or labor resource assigned to the Step # selected in the Route grid. To amend the Setup Time, manually enter the new value in this field. Format is entered as hours:minutes (e.g. 01:23). To amend the Calculate Setup by field, click the List box button and select either of these options: Order or Batch Size if the Batch Size is Known checkbox is marked. |
oWait Time/Calculate Wait by
Accept or amend the amount of time needed to wait for the item units to be received (if outsourced) or moved to another work center assigned to the Step # selected in the Route grid. To amend the Wait Time, manually enter the new value in this field. Format is entered as hours:minutes (e.g. 01:23). To amend the Calculate Wait by field, click the List box button and select either of these options: Order or Batch Size if the Batch Size is Known checkbox is marked. |
oCycle Time
Accept or amend the value shown in this field which refers to the amount of time required to complete one cycle of the Step # selected in the Route grid from start to finish. To amend, manually enter the new value in this field. Format is entered as hours:minutes (e.g. 01:23). |
oMove Out Time/Calculate Move Out by
Accept or amend the amount of time required to move the item units out of the work center assigned to the Step # selected in the Route grid. To amend the Move Out Time, manually enter the new value in this field. Format is entered as hours:minutes (e.g. 01:23). To amend the Calculate Move Out by field, click the List box button and select either of these option: Order or Batch Size if the Batch Size is Known checkbox is marked. |
oTeardown Time/Calculate Teardown by
Accept or amend the amount of time required to teardown the labor grade(s)/machine(s) to the Step # selected in the Route grid. To amend the Teardown Time, manually enter the new value in this field. Format is entered as hours:minutes (e.g. 01:23). To amend the Calculate Teardown by field, click the List box button and select either of these options: Order or Batch Size, if the Batch Size is Known checkbox is marked. |
