Notes:

Once a kit is built, the system automatically generates an entry reducing the quantities on-hand and costs of each component item used to build the kit inventory item.  The kit inventory item’s quantity and cost, on the other hand, increases by the number of units built and the costs transferred from the component items.

In cases where a user entered an incorrect build quantity and the build kit item transaction has already been saved, the user can still disassemble the built kit item using the Disassemble Kit Item function in the Maintenance menu.

Kit numbers are automatically assigned to the units that you have just recorded as built.

Q. Can I ship a Kit Item without building it through the Build Kit Items Maintenance function window?

A. You can create a Sales Order for the unassembled kit inventory items; however, the system will not allow you to ship the inventory items until you have built them using the Build Kit Items Maintenance function.  Also, you can not complete creating a sales invoice if you attempt to include such items in the invoice.

Q. Can I build kit inventory items even when one of the components has a zero or negative on-hand quantity?

A. In general, you can.  Although the system will display a message box informing you that a component item is insufficient, it will still save the transaction.  An exception to this would be when the component item that has insufficient quantity is a serialized inventory item.
