The Bill of Materials Maintenance function allows you to set up and maintain bill of materials records for the manufacture of master and subassembly items. The bill of materials record serves as the source for all component information used in the creation of work orders. A bill of materials record defines the inventory item quantities, machine usage units, labor units, and/or instructions to manufacture a master and/or parent item.
Each bill of materials record deals with the master item and its direct components. The record does not include components that make up a subassembly item. A subassembly item has its own bill of materials record that lists its corresponding direct components.
