You must install and activate the Inventory Control module before you can use the Inventory Specification features. This section discusses only the setting up of parameters related to the inventory specification feature in the IC Module Setup function.
To activate and subsequently implement the inventory specification features, perform the following procedures:
1.Access the IC Module Setup function from the Setup group in the Maintenance menu of the Inventory Control module.
2.Access the General Information page of the IC Module Setup function. In the Module Activation area, mark the Activate Item Specification checkbox.

3.Set up the specification types that will be the basis in setting up the detail item specification required for newly created inventory items with specifications. Examples of specification types are Color or Size. Refer to Set Up Specification Types section for the detailed discussion on these features.
4.Set up the detail item specifications for each specification type. Examples of item specifications are Black, White or Blue assigned to the Color specification type. Refer to Set Up Item Specifications section for the detailed discussion on these features.
5.Create inventory type records set up to support inventory specification by marking the Use Specification checkbox in the Settings Page of the Inventory Type Maintenance function window. You can use this inventory type with specifications as a template for creating new inventory items with specifications.
6.Create inventory item records with item specifications. Refer to the Inventory Specification in Inventory Maintenance section for a detailed discussion on these features.
When you have performed the foregoing procedures, you can begin the normal cycle of creating purchase orders for these inventory items and shipping items with specifications to customers.
When including inventory items with specifications in the Inventory Control module transactions, the system always provides an additional field to identify the particular specifications for the inventory item included in that particular transaction. In addition, you can access the Specifications Page for the user to choose the appropriate item specification among the list of item specifications set up for inclusion in that particular transaction.
