The Report Designer will automatically create a report layout which is based on a generic report template that it will use whenever a new report is created. Once a new report is created, the Report Designer allows you to edit or update the report settings. It also allows you to copy an existing report's layout and create it into a new layout, and delete a report layout that is no longer needed.
To create a new report layout, perform the following:
1.Click on a report name to expand the tree view.
2.Point the mouse cursor on the report's main layout heading; then, right-click on your mouse. In the drop-down list that appears, select New Layout option.
3.In the Create New Layout screen, enter values in the appropriate fields:
•Layout Name
•Layout Description
4.Click Save to save your entries; otherwise, click Cancel.
5.You can then proceed to edit the new layout. Take note that editing the report layout will automatically open the report in the workstation's default program to open XML files. To open the report layout in Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder, be sure to set it as your workstation's default program to open XML files.
