Edit or Delete Report Layout

This section discusses the procedure on how to edit or update an existing report layout using the Report Designer. It also discusses how to delete a report layout.

 

 

To edit or update an existing report's layout, follow the steps below:

 

1.Click on a report name to expand the tree view.

 

2.Click on the report's Layout main heading to display all the layouts available for the report.

 

3.Point the mouse cursor on the report's layout that you want to update or amend; then, right-click on your mouse. In the drop-down list that appears, select Edit Layout option.

Selecting the Edit Layout option will automatically open the report layout in the workstation's default program to open XML files. To open the report layout in Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder, be sure to set it as your workstation's default program to open XML files. You must be knowledgeable with using the Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder interface in order to successfully amend or update the field properties such as filters, parameters and field expressions.

The Report Designer window is inaccessible while a report layout is open in the Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder application. You must close the report layout to return to the Report Designer window.

 

 

4.Once done, click the Save button within the Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder screen to save your changes.

 

5.Click the Close or [X] button to close the Microsoft SQL Server Report Builder screen and return to the Report Designer window.

 

 

To delete a report layout, perform these steps:

 

1.Click on a report name to expand the report tree view.

 

2.Click on the report's Layout heading to display all the layouts available for the report.

 

3.Point the mouse cursor on the report layout that you wish to delete. Right-click on your mouse to display the drop-down list; then, select Delete option.

 

4.On the dialog box that appears, click Yes to confirm deletion; otherwise, click No to cancel.
