Perform the following in the Selection Criteria Page:

1.In the Unassigned Quantity field, review the quantity of serialized inventory items with no assigned serial numbers.

2.Enter the quantities of this serialized inventory item you want to assign serial numbers in the Quantity to Assign field.  The value you enter in this field must not exceed the value displayed in the Unassigned Quantity field.

3.In the Assignment Method area, choose either of the following methods by which to assign serial numbers to unassigned item quantities:

oManual

Choose this option if you want to assign non-sequential serial numbers or if you want to assign serial numbers manually.

oAutomatic

Choose this option if you want to assign serial numbers automatically.  This option is useful when assigning sequential serial numbers to multiple units of an inventory item.

4.Perform the following steps depending on the chosen assignment method:

For manual assignment of serial numbers:

4.1. In the Manual Assignment area, enter a group of recurring characters used as template when assigning serial numbers to the selected inventory item in the Serial # Template field.  If the serial numbers that you want to assign do not contain any recurring character, leave the Serial # Template field blank.

Example: Suppose you receive 20 units of serialized computer monitors from your supplier and all of the serial numbers are the same, except for the last five characters of each serial number (e.g. C131004M1810, C131004J1610, C131004D0404, etc.).  If the first seven (7) characters of each serial number are the same (C131004), enter those characters as your template so that they will automatically appear as default characters for each serial number in the Serial # column grid of the Manual Assignment Window.

For automatic assignment of serial numbers:

4.1. Enter values in the following enabled fields of the Automatic Assignment area:

oLast Assigned S/N

This read-only field displays the latest serial number that was assigned to the item.

oBeginning Serial #

Enter in this field the starting serial number you want to assign to the serialized inventory item.

oIncremental Positions

Enter in this field the positions in the serial number entered in the Beginning Serial # field where the system starts increasing the assignment of serial numbers.

oIncrement By

Enter in this field the value by which each sequential serial number will increase over the preceding serial number.

Example: To assign serial numbers for 10 units from 1001 to 1010, enter 1001 in the Beginning Serial # field; then, enter in the Incremental Position field the positions 3 to 4 (counting from the left) and enter 1 in the Increment by field.

Notes:

The system will not allow inclusion of alpha or special characters such as “A”, “B”, “-” or “:” when the system is generating incremental serial numbers through Automatic Assignment method; otherwise, the system will display a message informing you that the incremental position is invalid.

Alpha or special characters can be included in serial numbers if you enter such characters in the Serial # Template or in the Serial # column grids of the applicable Manual Assignment or Automatic Assignment window displayed after clicking the OK button in this function window.

You may also amend those characters using the Amend Serial Number function.

4.2. Review the range of system-generated serial numbers by viewing the first and last serial numbers in the First New Serial # and Last New Serial # fields, respectively.

5.When you are ready, click the OK button to proceed. Note that clicking this button will automatically display the Review Serial # Page.
